Transitioning to Fall: New Flavors on the Lake Club Menu

By The Lake Club Team4 min read

There is a moment, somewhere in the first cool week of September, when the whole mood of the lake begins to change. The light turns amber, the crowds thin, and the appetite quietly shifts from bright and breezy to warm and grounding. At Lake Club, the arrival of the fall menu is our favourite way to mark that turn. As the summer produce gives way to the earthier bounty of autumn, the kitchen leans into deeper flavours and cozier plates, all while keeping the elevated everyday dining that defines the room. Cooler days simply call for a different kind of table.

How the Fall Menu Reflects the Season

Great seasonal cooking always follows the calendar, and autumn hands a kitchen a generous basket. This is the season of squash and root vegetables, of wild mushrooms and late orchard fruit, of slow braises and warming spice. Our menu is built on locally sourced ingredients year round, so the shift into fall is less a reinvention than a natural evolution, a turning toward the ingredients that taste best when the air goes crisp. The result is food that feels like a warm sweater, familiar and comforting, yet plated with the same care you would expect on a summer evening. Settle into our everyday waterfront dining room and you will feel the change the moment the first plate lands.

That evolution happens gradually, plate by plate, rather than all at once. Some summer favourites linger for those last warm afternoons on the patio, while the kitchen quietly introduces the richer, slower cooked dishes that suit the season. It is a transition you can taste across several visits, which is part of the pleasure. No two weeks of autumn eat quite the same way on the lake.

Warming Plates for Cooler Evenings

As the evenings draw in, the heartier side of the kitchen comes into its own. The Truffle Chicken Supreme, stuffed with a local mushroom duxelles and ricotta and finished with truffle mash, is autumn on a plate, deep and earthy and thoroughly satisfying. The Ontario Lamb Rack under its pistachio herb crust brings a touch of occasion to a chilly night, while the Dry Aged Beef Striploin with caramelized onion, smashed potato, and port jus is the kind of dish that makes you want to linger over a second glass of red. For something comforting and globally inspired, the Butter Chicken simmered in a rich tomato and fenugreek sauce brings gentle warmth, and the Georgian Bay White Fish with its chorizo ragout proves the lake still has plenty to offer once the boats come in. Each of these anchors our evening dinner menu, which reads a little richer once the leaves begin to turn.

Earthy Comforts and Cozy Classics

Fall is the season that pasta and risotto were made for. The Gnocchi Cacio e Pepe, pillowy and generous with cracked black pepper and pecorino, is pure comfort in a bowl, and the Fettuccine Funghi, folded with local mushrooms, black truffle paste, spinach, and pecorino, tastes like a walk across a forest floor in the best possible way. The Shrimp Risotto Milanese brings saffron warmth to the table for those who want something a touch brighter. These are the plates that define cozy dining on the lake and give the fall menu its quiet soul, the sort of food you settle into rather than simply eat.

Sweet Endings and Seasonal Occasions

No fall meal is complete without a finish worth savouring. The Pistachio Tiramisu offers nutty, creamy indulgence, while the towering LC Tower Cake is the showstopper for a table with something to celebrate. As for what to pour, autumn is the moment to trade the crisp rosé for something with more weight, perhaps a bold Chianti, a Douro red, or one of our warming seasonal cocktails such as the Sunreef, built on cinnamon infused tequila and tart hibiscus.

The season also brings occasions of its own. Around Thanksgiving in October, the kitchen rolls out chef crafted features built on elevated fall classics, and for those hosting at home there is even a Thanksgiving dinner to go, a whole roasted turkey with all the trimmings made to serve a full table. Come the weekend, our weekend brunch carries the same cozy spirit into the daylight hours. The fall menu is our invitation to slow down, warm up, and savour the season while it lasts.
